The Winds of Change...

"I'm doing a new thing, can you sense it?"

ree

I find it so interesting that God probes us with a question around our awareness of what He's doing, a new thing. Other verses speak of God's desire to change, renew, transform us, and take us to new heights again and again. What he's asking us in Isaiah 43:19 is if we are aware of this work He's continually doing in us, this good work, do we know it?

Thankfully, if we don't know all we have to do is ask just like he tells us in James 1:5 ...

"If anyone lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

So, we can literally stop whatever we're doing and simply crawl up in Papa God's lap and ask Him what's up, and He will tell us what He's wanting to do in our lives at any moment!

This amazes me, yet I know there are plenty of times where I have pulled up the welcome mat as change approached my door. My heart screamed a big "nope, not today" at the thought of something new, another season... and it makes me ask: What makes us so prone to be against change, especially God assures us that it's for our good?

A couple things come to mind for me...

1.) We're afraid of failure. -- We're unsure of our ability to handle the change. What if this, and what if that... And worst of all, what if I step into a glorious season, and I screw it all up. What if I'm not strong enough, what if I'm not ready? Do I have what it takes? These are all valid and great questions! And the good news is, God has the answers, in a NOW word for you, and in scripture....and both are waiting for you to ask Him so He can comfort you with the truth that he wants to equip you for what lies ahead. He wants to do a work IN you AND through you.

2.) We know change calls for us to change too -- A change in season has lots of layers doesn't it? It requires we count the cost and really dig in to do the work. Change starts with us. This can be a hard reality to face, and it causes us to ask ourselves difficult questions at times. And there's so much grace. I see Jesus coming alongside us and meeting us right where we are, and His word assures us He will never call us to places that are out of our reach. He journeys with us. I love the saying "He loves us just as we are, and He loves us too much to simply let us stay that way." What an adventure!

And some people think the Christian life is boring, oh it's ever changing, ever growing, and never stagnant! What if we saw this call that way, like an exciting movie we get to star in with Jesus? Instead of just another thing we have to do or add to our list. What if we would partner with Him in envisioning the goal, and let the vision motivate us towards change?

What new thing is God wanting to do in your life? What if you approach it excited, and expectant for His GOOD plan? He's calling us to this life of adventure with Him!

"Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me."

Revelation 3:20
