Breaking Free From Performance

You are so much more than the sum of what you do.

Just like when Jesus was baptized and God looked down from Heaven and said, "This is my son, in whom I am well pleased." God looks at you son or daughter and is well pleased with you. Jesus had not yet done a thing in His ministry and He filled His father's eyes with great pleasure. God does not see us based on what we do. He created us as human beings, not human doings.
Performance moves us away from this simple truth wrapped up in love.
Performance is rooted in striving

It whispers the lie that our worth is in our achievement. "You're only good if you succeed." And it is constantly moving the bar of what that looks like. A perpetual hamster wheel.
God wants to cultivate in us our true identities, secure in Him and His faithful love for us.
When we know whose we are, we know WHO we are.
Performance steals true joy

God in all of His love for us, simply desires for us to experience the freedom that comes from living out our true identity. There is confidence and assurance that comes when we naturally fall in love with the nature of God. Walking in that love relationship, we can't help but want what He wants and celebrate the beauty and goodness that is all around us! Being stuck in performance is just that, stuckness!
Performance elevates peoples opinions

There is so much pressure and false expectation wrapped up in living a life based out of performance. It's exhausting. Calculating, ruminating, and playing the guessing game that comes with people pleasing. Above all, it's a sad reality that living this way elevates peoples opinions above the knowledge of God and His divine will. The question is who will you serve, the fear of man, or God?
We get to choose!
The Holy Spirit empowers us

The power and courage that we receive from the Holy Spirit allows us to walk out the life He's called us to. He shows us when to say yes, when to say know, His peace, His comfort, always there leading us. The Holy Spirit sures us up and strengthens us in our values, beliefs and even gives us everything we need to have Faith and a relationship with Him.
Allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal our true identity is all the difference.
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." -Isaiah 41:10
